Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka, a key figure in the Congress's efforts during the state elections, officially became the Deputy Chief Minister of Telangana. Alongside him, Revanth Reddy took the oath as the Chief Minister. Vikramarka secured victory in the Assembly polls from the Madhira constituency, which is reserved for Scheduled Castes (SC), defeating Kamal Raju Lingala of BRS.
Vikramarka's "People's March," a padyatra covering over 1,400 km across Telangana from March to June, is widely acknowledged for contributing to the Congress's comeback and return to power in the state. This foot march, led by the CLP leader, followed in the footsteps of Rahul Gandhi's Bharat Jodo Yatra.
In light of his padyatra, Vikramarka gave a number of suggestions to the Congress for its manifesto for the Assembly polls. His inputs were reflected in the framing of the party’s manifesto as well as its Declarations for farmers, youths and minorities.
In addition to Rahul Gandhi and the state party chief Revanth Reddy, Vikramarka spoke at many rallies and street meetings as part of his campaign. He connected with various groups like Dalits, tribals, minorities, farmers, unemployed youth, Singareni coal mine workers, students, artisans, weavers, and other individuals from different backward sections during these rallies.
Vikramarka was a part of the Pradesh Congress Committee executive committee from 1990 to 1992. In 2007, he became a Member of the Legislative Council (MLC) in undivided Andhra Pradesh. Two years later, he successfully contested and won the Assembly election from Madhira. He then held the position of the chief whip for the party government until 2011. Following that, he served as the Assembly Deputy Speaker until 2014.
Several state Congress leaders say that Bhatti’s yatra proved to be successful in highlighting the BRS government’s “failures” on various fronts and in taking the poll promises of Congress to the public, which include subsidised LPG cylinder for Rs 500 each, Rs 5 lakh per household for construction of houses, and Rs 2 lakh crop loan waiver for farmers.
