Hyderabad: Telangana is poised to go to the Congress but in Kamareddy, an assembly constituency located nearly 117 kilometers north of Hyderabad, a poignant drama played out. Kamareddy was the constituency where both KCR and Congress chief Revanth Reddy had thrown in their hats for the polls. The constituency was expected to see a confrontation between the two biggest leaders these polls. But amid the confrontation, a third candidate seems to have slipped through and won - Katipally Venkata Ramana Reddy.
KV Ramana Reddy slipped to the top in Kamareddy constituency amid the battle between KCR and Revanth Reddy.
Who is KV Ramana Reddy?
KV Ramana Reddy was once with the TRS (which is now BRS). He later shifted to the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). Ahead of the elections in Telangana, Katipalli Venkata Ramana Reddy had famously said that buses from Kamareddy depot will stay in Kamareddy and buses from Gajwel and Kodangal depots will go back to their respective depots.
The reference of course was to KCR and Revanth Reddy. In KCR stronghold Gajwel, the incumbent chief minister is winning, while in Kodangal, Revanth Reddy is in the lead.
That both KCR and Revanth Reddy were non-locals in Kamareddy was very much part of KV Ramana Reddy's campaign in the constituency.
"I was born here, I grew up here, I will stay with you till my death," he had said during an election campaign. Voting for a non-local person, according to KV Ramana Reddy, would be equal to "drowning".
KV Ramana Reddy's campaign seems to have won. The BJP candidate has defeated the top-most leaders of Congress and BRS.
