Who is Gonzalo Lira? Tucker Carlson Claims American Journalist Being Tortured in Ukraine Prison
American-born Chilean journalist Gonzalo Lira has been arrested by the Ukrainian government on his way to Hungary for political asylum, Tucker Carlson revealed on his show 'Tucker On X.' Lira's father also appeared on the show, revealing that his son was arrested for criticising US President Joe Biden and VP Kamala Harris and the nation's foreign policy in supporting Zelensky's "Nazi regime."

Former Fox News anchor Tucker Carlson in the Saturday episode of his show on X, platform formerly known as Twitter, claimed that American author and filmmaker Gonzalo Lira is in Ukrainian prison. We cannot verify the claim.
In a video that Tucker Carlson showed on an episode of his show, Lira explained how Russia's economy, which western media had claimed would suffer horribly during the conflict, has actually managed to stay afloat and is "just fine." He pointed out the irony that people in the UK were now dying from hypothermia because they no longer had access to cheap Russian energy.
Lira had been discredited by the American people and media and called a "Russian puppet, a liar and a propagandist," according to Carlson. "But in fact, now we can admit he was right."
Carlson went on to explain how all of Lira's claims were true, and that "Russia is not losing the war in Ukraine. Russia is winning and its economy is fine."
The Ukrainian government had arrested Lira for posting the particular video and others like it, Carlson stated.
He had been let out of prison, but a next video update from him, his last, showed a bleak image.
"I will definitely be sent to a prison labor camp where I will most certainly die. And so I decided the smart thing to do was take my chances in getting across the border." He shared that in the past two days, he had ridden his bike over 1300 kms from Kharkov, to get to the Hungarian border, cross over and ask for political asylum.
"So either I will cross the border into Hungary in the next couple of hours or I will be arrested again. And God knows what will happen to me."
Lira did not make it across the border, and was arrested again, Carlson stated, "a political prisoner in a country that we were told was free," referring to how the western media had painted an incorrect image of Ukraine's democracy versus Russia's autocracy, to get the people in support of the nation.
"The Biden State department is uninterested in the fate of this American citizen. In fact, of course, they support his imprisonment," Carlson claimed. He then decided to talk to Lira's father, Gonzalo Lira Sr.
Lira Sr. pointed out how his son had been arrested seven months ago but was still awaiting trial. "He was appointed a court attorney that doesn't speak English. The US Embassy haven't done a thing. Neither I nor his sister have bene able to communicate with him."
"An American citizen by birth is in jail because he was exercising his right of freedom of speech."
He also claimed how his son had been arrested and detained for a week last year with his recording equipment stolen, so that he could not continue "his criticism of Zelensky's Nazi regime, supported by the U.S. government, by Mr.Biden."
He also claimed that just four days after Lira had posted a particularly critical video on President Joe Biden and VP Kamala Harris, he had been arrested by the "terrible, sinister Gestapo called SPU."
"My son is a victim of this Biden government and his relation with that puppet Zelensky."
Elon Musk also responded to Carlson's post on X, expressing concern about the foreign policy of the United States, which has already spent over $100 billion to rally with Ukraine.
Gonzalo Lira (born February 29, 1968) is an American novelist and filmmaker born in Burbank, California.
American journalist Lira has been openly critical of Ukraine and president Zelensky in the past, highlighting how the "Winston Churchill figure" that the western media has shown Zelensky to be was simply not true.
