Yuzvendra Chahal and Varun Chakravarthy enjoyed a fruitful outing in the ongoing quarter-finals of the Vijay Hazare Trophy as they returned with figures of 4/37 and 3/37, respectively.
Chahal, who has claimed 18 wickets so far in the tournament, began with the wicket of Anustup Majumdar and then went to snare Ritwik Roy Chowdhury, Pradipta Pramanik and Mohammed Kaif.
Chahal struck with his third ball of the over as Majumdar chipped one to long-on. He then got rid of Ritwik with a quicker one that caught the batter unaware. His third wicket came at a crucial juncture as Pramanik was looking dangerous on 21 off just 19 balls.
His crucial blows helped Haryana maintain a firm grip on the game, and despite Shahbaz Ahmed's gritty hundred, the northern side managed to restrict Bengal to 225.
Chahal's performance will surely do a world of good for his confidence before the ODI series against South Africa. He was omitted from T20I side.
Elsewhere, after Mumbai chose to bat against Tamil Nadu, Varun Chakravarthy spun a web around the team led by Ajinkya Rahane.
Chakravarthy bowled a tight line and picked up the crucial wickets of Rahane, Shivam Dube and Tanush Kotian. Mumbai were ultimately bowled out for 227, as Sai Kishore also claimed three wickets.
