Katipalli Venkata Ramana Reddy was the BJP's candidate in Kamareddy. He defeated both K Chandrasekhar Rao and Revanth Reddy.

The BJP dealt a big blow to both ruling BRS and Congress in Telangana, winning a seat hotly contested by Chief Minister KCR and state Congress Chief, after 19 rounds of polling. The win in Kamareddy, a BRS stronghold, helped the BJP show voters that ahead of the 2024 Lok Sabha elections it is still a force in Telangana.
The poll verdict in Kamareddy added to the BJP's stellar show in the three states in Hindi belt - while BJP retained Madhya Pradesh, it snatched two Rajasthan and Chhattisgarh from the Congress.
Trailing for the majority of the day, the BJP candidate, Katipally Venkata Ramana Reddy, started leading after 14th round of polling, relegating Telangana Congress Chief Revanth Reddy to second position. KCR, meanwhile maintained the third spot.
With a score of eight, the BJP has bettered its 2018 tally of 1 (it won two subsequent bypolls), helping it establish itself as a serious player in the state.

Who is KV Ramana Reddy?

KV Ramana Reddy was once with the TRS (which is now BRS). He later shifted to the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). Ahead of the elections in Telangana, Katipalli Venkata Ramana Reddy had famously said that buses from Kamareddy depot will stay in Kamareddy and buses from Gajwel and Kodangal depots will go back to their respective depots.
That both KCR and Revanth Reddy were non-locals in Kamareddy was very much part of KV Ramana Reddy's campaign in the constituency.
"I was born here, I grew up here, I will stay with you till my death," he had said during an election campaign. Voting for a non-local person, according to KV Ramana Reddy, would be equal to "drowning".
