Jaipur: A seven-year-old girl was allegedly raped by a school van driver, who drover her to a private school in Jaipur, police said on Sunday.
The incident occurred three months ago and the accused was arrested after the minor's family registered a complaint in the three-month old incident on Friday, police said.
The accused, identified as Abdul Majid, who operates a school van was arrested on Saturday, SHO Kishan Lal said, PTI reported.
The family have also named the school's owner and the principal in the FIR alleging they did not take action against the driver, police said.
The family also alleged that the 55-year-old driver had threatened the girl's brother at knifepoint, Lal said.
The SHO said the incident happened nearly three months ago but there is no clarity over the place where the alleged incident happened.
An FIR under relevant sections of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act (POCSO) Act and the Indian Penal Code (IPC) was lodged at the Jhotwara police station on Friday.
The matter is being investigated, the SHO said.
In a similar unrelated incident, a six-year-old girl was allegedly raped at a wedding function by an unidentified person in Rajasthan’s Dausa district. The incident occurred at a hotel on the intervening night of Thursday and Friday.
According to The Times Of India, the girl was taken to JK Lon Hospital in Jaipur for treatment and her condition is stable, said the police.
The police said she went to attend a wedding function with her parents on Thursday night.
Later at midnight, she was found by her parents in distress and also spotted many injuries on her body. After this, the family quickly alerted the police and a case was registered.
Dausa SP Vandita Rana told TOI, "Ten teams have been assigned tasks to track down the suspect in the crime.”
Meanwhile, Jaipur range IGP Umesh Chander Dutta also reached Dausa to meet the girl’s parents and the doctors.
The police said a team of forensic experts searched the crime scene for evidence. They also looked into all of the people who attended the wedding, as well as the hotel and garden workers, to identify the suspect.
Condemning the incident, Rajendra Rathore, a senior Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader, also went to the hospital to meet with the minor's family.
"Investigation is being conducted from every possible angle. Our teams are making all possible efforts to identify the accused by examining footage of CCTV cameras and checking guests who attended the wedding and the hotel staff. The accused will be arrested soon,” a police official stated.
