"It's my privilege to be with the Punjab Kings again. We have a good core of players as evidenced by the fact that we have the lowest number of player releases this year," Bangar said in a press release.
“Sanjay is an experienced coach and has great credentials. Over the season and beyond we will leverage his ability to build relationships across the squad,” said CEO Satish Menon.
The former Indian batting coach will be at the IPL auction scheduled to be conducted in Dubai on December 19. After his earlier stint with the Punjab Kings, Bangar continued as the batting coach of the Indian team that reached the semifinal of the 2019 World Cup.
Bangar was then appointed as the batting consultant of the Royal Challengers Bangalore ahead of IPL 2021 before being named their head coach for the next two seasons. After his and the director of cricket operations Mike Hesson's contracts expired after IPL 2023, RCB didn't renew them and appointed Andy Flower as their new coach.
Under Bangar, Punjab Kings finished runners-up in 2014 but went on to finish at the bottom of the points table in the next two editions. Ahead of the auction for IPL 2024, PBKS released five players, including Tamil Nadu finisher Shahrukh Khan.
Punjab Kings have a purse of Rs 29.1 crore for the auction.
