Numerous immigrants in Canada are struggling to maintain their minimum lifestyle with the escalating cost of living, leading to a significant departure from the country.
Recent statistics indicate that in the first half of 2023, approximately 42,000 individuals departed from the country. In 2022, the count stood at 93,818, while 85,927 exited in 2021, as per Reuters citing official records.
Emigration, as a fraction of Canada's total population, surged to 0.2 percent in the mid-1990s and currently hovers around 0.09 percent, based on government figures.
A report from the Institute for Canadian Citizenship (ICC), an immigration advocacy group, highlights that the departure rate of immigrants hit a twenty-year peak in 2019. Although the numbers declined during pandemic lockdowns, recent data from Statistics Canada indicates a resurgence in emigration trends.
According to a Reuters interview, the primary reason for considering departure from Canada among many immigrants is the rising cost of living. Numerous immigrants pointed to the soaring housing expenses as the predominant factor influencing their decision to seek opportunities elsewhere.
As per data from the Royal Bank of Canada's (RBC) September report, the average household in Canada requires approximately 60 percent of its income to cover home ownership costs.
