Mirror Now Summit Chhattisgarh: Need to Make Healthcare More Accessible

Raipur: Chattisgarh is working towards making sure its healthcare system is accessible to all people, in every corner of the state. Speaking at the Mirror Now Summit in Chhattisgarh today - September 20, 2023, Dr Rakesh Gupta and Dr Mahesh Sinha stated that the state is working towards improving their healthcare system every day.
Speaking at the summit, the two healthcare experts stated that one of the biggest challenges in the state was ensuring healthcare is accessible to the mass public of Chhattisgarh.
While addressing their challenges, Dr Gupta and Dr Sinha shared that while the state's healthcare system has a long way to go, they have managed to reduce Malaria cases to less than one per cent.
In a move to increase healthcare accessibility in the state, the government is also working to expand medical education in the state. The experts shared that eight new medical colleges have been set up - one private and four government colleges. The government has also received permission to set up three more medical colleges in the near future.
Dr Gupta and Dr Sinha also shared how Naxalism has impacted the accessibility to healthcare but the government is working towards solving the problem.
With the rise of COVID-19, the world saw a switch to digital means of communication for education, healthcare and more, In Chhattisgarh, the government and healthcare bodies are working to take the healthcare system online, as it would solve the main challenge of accessibility.
Towards the end of their panel, the two experts also touched upon the need to recognise mental health and mental health problems, not only in the state but as a society overall. Dr Gupta and Dr Sinha urged for more mental health workers and social counsellors.
The experts also touched upon the need to improve healthcare infrastructure in a way, that the benefits are "win-win" for all as opposed to one party benefiting from the profits.
