DC Studios’ big boss Zack Snyder has come out about his thoughts on Greta Gerwig’s Barbie cracking a joke on his cut of Justice League. In the film, the joke comes soon after Ryan Gosling’s Ken has established patriarchy to Barbieland after his stroll in the real world. Upon waking up in a hypnotic state, the Writer Barbie portrayed by Alexandra Shipp says, “It’s like I’ve been in a dream where I was really invested in the Zack Snyder Cut of Justice League.”

In a recent interview with Men’s Health, Snyder noted that the intention of the joke was aimed at the fandom but did give a shout-out to the funny line. “I thought [Barbie] was great,” Snyder told Men’s Health. “And I think the joke is pretty good.”

He then added, “The thing that I said to Debbie is – the thing that you need to take a second and think about is that your name is so seamlessly sewed together with a pop culture phenomenon so big it can exist as a joke in a movie about Barbie. That’s pretty insane. You just need to step back for a second and go like, ‘Whoa, what did we do? What happened? How is that a thing?'”

A version of Justice League that Barbie mentioned was made by Snyder before he left, and Whedon became the new filmmaker. Whedon changed the movie’s style when Snyder was gone, and the movie did not do well in the cinemas. Snyder’s fans wanted to see his version and started a movement to ‘Release the Snyder Cut,’ which finally happened when Zack Snyder’s Justice League came out on Max in 2021. Snyder’s movie was more serious and darker and had extra scenes that he shot for the longer version.
