Kochi: Kerala's famous Sabarimala temple continues to witness heavy rush of devotees who throng the place everyday to offer prayers. Considering the heavy footfall, the state government has extended the time of darshan at the Lord Ayyappa shrine in Sabarimala.
The time of darshan has been extended by one hour and the decision was implemented immediately by opening the temple's nada at 3pm on Sunday.
The decision was taken after a meeting of devaswom minister K Radhakrishnan with Thantri Kantararu Mahesh Mohanaru on Sunday.

Sabarimala Darshan Timings

The nada will be opened at 3 pm on every day during the pilgrim season. The decision was taken to ensure smooth darshan for all pilgrims, TOI quoted Devaswom Board officials.
Now, the pilgrims will get an opportunity for darshan for 18 hours a day, the officials said.
The board had informed the Thanthri about the pilgrims' demand for increasing the time of darshan. Following the demand from the government, the board and the court, the Thanthri decided in favour of extending the time of darshan.

10-12 Hour Wait For Darshan
Meanwhile, devotees have to reportedly wait for 10-12 hours in long queues for darshan at the temple, TOI said citing TV reports. Massive traffic jams were also reported on the way to temple which added to the inconvenience.
Police requested the Devaswom Board to restrict the number of devotees to 75,000 per day, IG Sparjan Kumar, who is supervising the security arrangements at Sabarimala, told TOI.
He said that during the present third phase of pilgrimage, the number of devotees shot up with around 90,000 bookings being made through virtual queue and nearly 30,000 via spot booking each day.
