Hamas on Sunday threatened to kill remaining hostages if Israel doesn't meet its demands like providing more aid for Gaza and releasing prisoners are not met. The Palestine-based group's armed wing spokesperson Abu Obeida, in a television broadcast, said that 'not a single kidnap victim will leave alive'.
This comes after Israel said that Hamas is holding 20 bodies of hostages who died in captivity. PM Benjamin Netanyahu urged the group members to surrender and not die for leader Yahya Sinwar.
Israel and Hamas had agreed on a temporary truce last month. Tel Aviv released prisoners in exchange for hostages. Gaza was not bombed for that period. Hamas was accused of committing an 'atrocious terrorist attack in Jerusalem', killing three people after Israel ended the truce abruptly.
Now, Obeida, the spokesperson of Hamas' armed wing, claims that the group will kill all remaining hostages.
“Neither the fascist enemy and its arrogant leadership… nor its supporters… can take their prisoners alive without an exchange and negotiation and meeting the demands of the resistance,” Obeida said in a televised broadcast. Netanyahu's office earlier said that of the 137 hostages believed to still be in Hamas custody, 20 are dead.
Netanyahu on Sunday called Hamas members to surrender. The Israeli PM's comments followed remarks by Israel Defense Forces (IDF) Chief of Staff Herzi Halevi that Palestine-based group was collapsing.
“In the past few days, dozens of Hamas terrorists have surrendered before our forces. They put down their weapons and turn themselves over to our brave fighters,” Netanyahu said in a video statement.
