Bengaluru Auto Driver Tries to Run Over Traffic Police Officer Threatens to Kill Him
Bengaluru: A 28-year-old auto rickshaw driver allegedly made an attempt to run over a Bengaluru traffic cop who was intervening as he drove on the wrong side. The suspect, identified as Jishan, also reportedly threatened to kill the police officer if taken to the police station.
On December 4, Traffic Assistant Sub Inspector (ASI) Nagesh Rao, while on duty, attempted to stop Jishan for driving on the wrong side near the NGF signal on Old Madras Road. Ignoring the instructions, Jishan continued driving, prompting Rao to jump into the moving auto rickshaw and instruct him to stop. However, Jishan persisted and drove about 200 meters before stopping at the next signal.
Rao called for backup using a wireless device, and upon its arrival, another officer entered the auto and directed Jishan to drive to the Jeevan Bheema Nagar traffic station. Instead, Jishan halted the auto midway, grabbed a large hollow brick, and threatened to kill the officers.
Subsequently, Jishan was taken to the Baiyappanahalli law and order police station, where he was released on station bail. As per a Deccan Herald repot, Rao expressed his surprise at the escalation of the situation. He said that while dealing with minor issues involving commuters was routine for a traffic cop, this incident was particularly alarming.
An investigating officer mentioned that Jishan, who was released on station bail and issued a notice, acted out of fear and a desire to escape when confronted by the police officer. The officer attributed the incident to the heat of the moment.
