Amid Race For CM In 3 States, 10 BJP MPs Resign From Parliament

Nearly 10 out of 12 BJP MPs, who contested the Assembly Elections in five states, resigned from Parliament on Wednesday, which sources said was due to procedural reasons. As per the Constitution of India, an individual cannot hold both - the position of Member of Parliament (MP) as well as Member of Legislative Assembly (MLA).
The 10 who resigned on Wednesday included Madhya Pradesh victors Narendra Singh Tomar, who won the Dimani seat, and Prahlad Patel who won the seat of Narsingpur.
Speaking to ANI, Patel said, "I have resigned as MP and will resign from the cabinet soon."
The two leaders who are yet to resign from their positions include Baba Balaknath, who fought and won the seat of Tijara in Rajasthan, and Renuka Singh who won the seat of Sarguja in Chhattisgarh.
Speculation is rife that the candidates who resigned could be in the race to be next CM in the three states the BJP won by a majority in the elections - Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh and Rajasthan. Sources say that there is a huge likelihood that the BJP will choose new faces. Adding fuel to the fire, incumbent Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh, Shivraj Singh Chouhan said Tuesday that he was not in the race for the top post.
Sources within the party have told Times Now that a decision who will be the three new Chief Ministers is likely within the next three days.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah and BJP chief JP Nadda have been holding marathon meetings with the party's state in-charges to decide on the candidates.
