Ahmedabad: Heavy unseasonal rains with strong winds were witnessed in Ahmedabad on Sunday. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast generally cloudy skies in Ahmedabad on Monday and thunderstorm with rain on Tuesday, November 28. The night temperatures in the city are likely to drop to 13 degrees Celsius.

Gujarat Rains: Lightning Strike Kills 14, Cricket Stadium Damaged

Unseasonal rains were reported from over 155 talukas of Gujarat on Sunday morning. While most of the districts in Saurashtra region were affected with the change in weather conditions, other districts across the state too received rainfall accompanied with winds. Cites of Surat, Ahmedabad and Gandhinagar too were lashed with heavy rainfall in the morning.
Moreover, at least 14 people died, and houses and crops were damaged on Sunday in Gujarat after heavy unseasonal rain lashed the state. As many as 10 were also injured in the widespread rains since morning. Three people died in Dahod due to lightning, while two were killed in Bharuch. One each died in Surat, Dwarka, Panchmahal, Surendranagar, Amreli, Kheda, Ahmedabad Rural, Sabarkantha, and Botad. At least 40 animals were also killed in different lightning incidents.
In Rajkot, the rain caused severe damage to Khanderi Cricket Stadium. According to sources, the estimated loss would be around Rs 1.5 to Rs 2 crore. Ceramic industries and factories in Morbi in Saurashtra were forced to shut due to the rain.
Out of the 251 talukas in Gujarat, 220 received up to 50 mm of rainfall in 10 hours since 6 am on Sunday, disrupting normal life. Heavy hailstorms and foggy conditions were also reported in many areas of Saurashtra. Strong winds with gusts were also reported from many places, leading to tree fall incidents.
