Is Congress About To Lose Karnataka?

New Delhi: Congress was in for some heavy shock after the recently-concluded Assembly elections when the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) comfortably clinched three states from its claws, namely Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh and Rajasthan. While the buzz is still on in political circuits about how the saffron camp swept Hindi heartland states, it seems another shock is in store for the grand old party and this time in south India.
JD(S) leader HD Kumaraswamy has made some shocking inside revelations which may just add to the worries of Congress and force the party to tighten scrutiny of its own ministers and MLAs. Kumaraswamy reportedly hinted at the possible collapse of the Congress government in Karnataka, claiming that a 'top Minister' had already held talks with BJP leaders at the Centre.
Kumaraswamy said he had information that a Congress Minister consulted BJP senior leaders at the Centre assuring that he would come out with 50 legislators.

'ALL IS NOT WELL'

"All is not well in the Congress government. I don't know when this government will go. An influential minister is desperate to escape from the cases against him," PTI quoted Kumaraswamy, adding that the Centre had filed cases against him with no chance of 'escape'.
“A Minister has gone to the leaders at the Centre with an application to join them after the Lok Sabha polls. He has sought ‘relief’ for another six months so that he can join them with 50 or 60 MLAs,” he said while speaking to reporters in Hassan on Sunday.

WHO IS THIS 'DESPERATE' MINISTER?

When asked to name the leader, Kumaraswamy did not give a name but said such an 'audacious' act cannot be expected from small leaders. He made it clear that only an 'influential people' can do such things.
“Anything can happen after the Lok Sabha polls,” he reportedly said. “Something similar to what happened in Maharashtra can happen here too. Nobody is honest or committed to the party. They will look after their individual benefits. This has happened all along in politics,” Kumaraswamy alleged.

AFTER LOSING 3 STATES, AB BACHA KYA?

Congress lost Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan and Chhattisgarh to the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in the recently-held Assembly elections and the loses cannot be taken for granted given that the crucial 2024 General elections are just around the corner. Despite the rigorous efforts of forming a massive bloc and adding a touch of patriotism by naming it - INDIA - and the back-to-back grand meetings with big leaders making big claims to corner Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the Congress gained little.
Now what's left? Against the three loses, Congress did manage to make one gain as it won Telangana. So, now, with the latest win, the Congress will now be in power in three states on its own - Karnataka, Himachal Pradesh and Telangana.
The party is also part of the ruling coalition in Bihar and Jharkhand, if at all that matters. And yes, it is also an ally of the DMK in Tamil Nadu; however, it is not a part of the state government.
All eyes are now on the 2024 General elections where the fight would be between the massive INDIA bloc - a big tent political alliance of 28 political parties - versus BJP with the saffron camp confidently riding on the 'Modi' factory, hoping that the lotus continues to bloom in India.
