IPL 2022 auction: 10 costliest players in IPL history

1. Virat Kohli - 17 Crores

Virat Kohli joined the Royal Challengers Bangalore in 2008 for just Rs. 12 lakhs. That gradually increased to Rs. 8.28 crores in 2011 and since 2018 he was earning a whopping 17 crores. However, for IPL 2022, he took a pay cut of Rs. 2 crores and will be representing the same franchise.

2. Chris Morris - 16.25 Crores

South African all-rounder Chris Morris sadly announced his retirement from cricket ahead of the mega auction. But it is to mention that he was the costliest player in IPL 2021 with a price tag of Rs. 16.25 crores. He played from Rajasthan Royals.

3. Rishabh Pant - 16 Crores

Delhi Capitals shelled out a whopping Rs. 16 crores to retain their wicketkeeper-batsman Rishabh Pant for he will be leading the side like the last season. The Indian cricketer was in decent form last year.

4. Rohit Sharma - 16 Crores

Mumbai Indians decided to retain their skipper Rohit Sharma for a whopping Rs. 16 crores. Under his able leadership, the franchise has won 5 titles in 2013, 2015, 2017, 2019 and 2020.

5. Ravindra Jadeja - 16 Crores

The Chennai Super Kings decided to retain their all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja for the upcoming IPL 2022 at a whopping Rs. 16 crores. He is definitely one of the most expensive players for the upcoming season.

6. Yuvraj Singh - 16 Crores

Ahead of the 2015 IPL, the then Delhi Daredevils went against all odds to bestow their faith on the Indian all-rounder Yuvraj Singh. He remained the costliest player that season with a price tag of Rs. 16 crores but failed to justify it with his performance.

7. Pat Cummins - 15.5 Crores

Ahead of the 2020 IPL, the Kolkata Knight Riders won an intense bidding war to bag Aussie pacer Pat Cummins at a whopping Rs. 15.5 crores. The bowler failed to justify that price tag with his performance and hence released ahead of the 2022 IPL auction.

8. Virat Kohli - 15 Crores

Virat Kohli, who has stepped down from captaincy, was retained by the Royal Challengers Bangalore at an Rs. 2 crores pay cut. His retention cost for IPL 2022 was Rs. 15 crores.

9. Gautam Gambhir - 14.9 Crores

Ahead of the 2011 IPL, Kolkata Knight Riders, which was in desperate need of a dependable captain, splashed a whopping Rs. 14.9 crores on Gautam Gambhir and made him the skipper. He justified being the costliest player with his sublime leadership.

10. Ben Stokes - 14.5 Crores

Undoubtedly, the Indian audience will be missing the England all-rounder Ben Stokes in the upcoming IPL 2022. Do you know ahead of the 2017 IPL, the then Rising Pune Supergiants bought him for a whopping Rs. 14.5 crores making him the most expensive that season.
