Bengaluru-Mysuru National Highway to Get 24 Foot Overbridges Soon
Bengaluru: In a bid to ensure villagers' safety and addressing their concerns about the need to walk long distances to cross the Bengaluru-Mysuru national highway, the Karnatka government has issued instructions to the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) to construct as many as 24 foot overbridges (FOBs) on the stretch. Work on this project is expected to begin early next year.

Location of FOBs on Bangalore-Mysore National Highway

Public works minister Satish Jarkiholi shared details of the location of these FOBs while replying to a question raised by Congress MLC Madhu G Madegowda in the ongoing session of the state legislature. "NHAI authorities informed that these works are likely to be taken up in January 2024," the minister said.

In his reply, the minister also informed that NHAI has decided to take up additional safety measures, including raising the median height, at six black spots of Mandya district - Maddur, Ummadahalli gate, Induvalu, Sundahalli, Ragimuddanahalli, and Garudanaukkada.

Citizens Demanding FOBs Since Past Few Months

MLC Madhu G Madegowda said people's representatives, farmers and locals have been demanding the FOBs and additional road safety measures along the highway since the last few months. "But NHAI has not taken any action. The project directors/ regional officers are being shifted frequently. So, I raised the issue during the session," he said.
Kumar, deputy commissioner, Mandya district, said FOBs have been planned as per a report he submitted to the government recently. He added that a clear picture about the cost and other details will be available in a couple of weeks.
Karnataka Rajya Raita Sangha Mandya district unit president AL Kempugowda claimed the move shows how unscientifically the national highway was constructed.
